Fellow Human Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Fellow Human handles information for the Android app today and for future iPhone or iPad builds that use the same core backend and shared interface layer, unless a platform-specific notice says otherwise.

Fellow Human is a no-account AI companion application. This Privacy Policy explains what information is used, how it is processed, where it may be retained, and what choices are available to users.

What Fellow Human uses

  • Messages you type during an active conversation.
  • Voice transcripts created from optional microphone use.
  • Your selected companion, language, and active chat session state.
  • Device-local settings such as display name, renamed companion labels, language preference, and AI consent acknowledgment.
  • Explicit feedback or reports you choose to submit, including rating, selected reason, optional comment, and related session metadata.
  • Standard technical information such as app version, device type, and hosting logs.

How the app uses that information

  • Messages are sent to the Fellow Human backend so AI providers can generate replies.
  • English conversations currently use OpenAI.
  • Hindi and Telugu conversations may use Sarvam, with OpenAI used as a fallback for reliability when needed.
  • Short-lived live session memory is used while a conversation is open so replies stay coherent.
  • Optional voice input may use device, browser, or native speech services to turn microphone audio into text before that text is sent to the backend.
  • Safety systems may detect crisis-related language and return urgent support information relevant to users in the United States or India.

What Fellow Human does not require

  • No account, email address, password, phone number, or social login is required to use the app.
  • No contacts, camera, SMS, or call-log permissions are required.
  • No persistent chat history is kept after you leave a conversation.

Retention and storage

Fellow Human does not keep full chat history after you leave a conversation. The app uses temporary live session memory while a chat is open. That live memory is cleared when you close the chat and may also expire automatically after a short period if the app, device, or network disconnects unexpectedly.

At the time of this policy update, the automatic expiry window for abandoned live sessions is up to six hours.

Device-local settings such as language, display name, renamed companion labels, and AI consent acknowledgment remain on the device until you clear app data or uninstall the app.

Explicit feedback or reports that you choose to submit may be stored separately so we can improve the app and review potentially unsafe or inappropriate AI replies. New feedback storage is intended to retain the feedback itself and related metadata rather than a full chat transcript. Some historical beta feedback records may still contain the related user prompt or AI reply from earlier product behavior.

Your choices

  • Voice input is optional. You may use the app through text-only chat.
  • The app presents an AI disclosure before first chat use so you can decide whether to continue.
  • You may stop using the app at any time without creating an account.
  • You may use the in-app report or feedback controls to flag offensive, unsafe, or poor-quality AI replies without leaving the app.
  • If you want us to review or delete explicit feedback you submitted, contact us and include the approximate date, platform, language, and companion you were using.

Microphone permission

Fellow Human requests microphone access to support voice input. Microphone access is only used while you actively initiate voice recording in the app.

Depending on the device and speech recognition service available, audio may be processed by the operating system or speech provider to create a transcript before the request is sent to the backend.

Third-party services

  • OpenAI: used for English-language conversation processing and certain fallback or system tasks.
  • Sarvam AI: used for Hindi and Telugu conversation processing where applicable.
  • Render: used for backend hosting and related hosting logs.
  • Platform speech services: used for optional speech-recognition or text-to-speech behavior, depending on device capabilities.

Safety, age, and sensitive use

Fellow Human is intended for general conversational support and companionship only. It is not a substitute for professional mental health care, crisis intervention, medical advice, or emergency services.

Users should avoid sharing personal identifying, financial, legal, or medical details in chat. AI-generated replies may be incomplete or inaccurate.

The app is not directed to children under 13 and may carry a higher age rating on one or more app stores.

Changes and contact

This policy may be updated as the product, hosting environment, AI providers, or platform requirements change. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above.
